Canadian Real Estate Association takes stance on windmills!

Announced today, the Canadian Real Estate Association’s (CREA) Political Action Committee will be fighting for home owner property rights; apart of these rights are the impact of wind turbines. This is excellent news for the consumers we are fighting to protect; and adds to the initiative we started at the Brampton Real Estate Board and most recently also taken on by the Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA). This issue effects homeowners as well as the REALTOR(R) as we jointly fight for home owners property rights!

Excellent news! This couldn’t come at a better time for those feeling the effects of the government’s Green Energy Act setbacks. It is simply common sense that property values will be negatively impacted by the poor siting of wind turbines! This is not “nimbyism”, it is just common sense.

Hi Gordon. Thank you for your inquiry. I apologize for the delay in response, for some reason this post (along with Gordon Hufnagel’s post) ended up in Spam as opposed to a reply to our Blog site. The site must be filtering people with the name Gordon… LOL

Excellent question; there are a multitude of sites that can help you find out about impact of windmills. I would first turn you to Wind Concerns Ontario’s site at:
There are five studies included at this link (including a summary of my findings in an earlier study) that will give you some information. As for the Property Rights debate; The Brampton Real Estate Board along with the Ontario Real Estate Association are actively lobbying government (all levels) to ensure property rights are protected. The campaign is called the Home Ownership Matters Campaign and was launched about a year ago to deal with a large swab of property ownership issues. The campaign gained lots of traction and was incorporated into to all of the major political parties campaign promises. The site is:

There are also several other examples of what we have done to preserve property rights. Here are a few short clips of what REALTORS® have done for property owners:
